Lip Service... A La Rimmel

This is post two in my Lip Service Series...

If you missed post one you can see it here!

Basically, this series is a swatch fest of my favorite lip products arranged by brand. My first post focused on NYX cosmetics, this one is focused on Rimmel both of which are beautiful Drugstore brands. The third and final portion of this series will focus on high end lip products :)

So you know the drill... product, swatches, what I love, what I don't....

Rimmel's Moisture Renew Lipsticks are a product I've adored for a long time. I own several different colors. (7 I own 7... )

Thing that annoys me about these lipsticks... The fact that they all look identical and I don't have a good storage option that lets me easily see what color the lipstick is.

Minor issue though.

What I love about these lipsticks... every other thing!
They go on like buttah, the colors are rich and vibrant, they don't cost and arm and a leg, and you can find a color you like... 100% of the time. These lipsticks have a color for everyone!

Auburn Breeze, Coral Gardens, and Berry Rose are what I guess you would call "my lips but better" shades. They are almost exactly the color of my lips with a slight variation for each of them. I love these colors they work amazingly with my skin tone!

Nude Delight is my absolute favorite! I love it so much I wore it on my wedding day!

Pink Chic is the perfect pink, well for me it is.

Red Alert and As You Like it Victoria are both bright, bold, beautiful colors. Red Alert is a red and As You Like it Victoria is a bright bold pink. They are both gorgeous, however I don't wear them often, because they are so bold and also because they don't stand up well to eating and drinking.

So all and all, Rimmel Moisture renew lipsticks are my boo's!
Will most definitely be picking up some more colors in the near future :)

It came to my attention that these wishlists might be seen as me asking for things for Christmas... they're not intended to be that at all. My goal with this was to show you guys what things I would love to have in each of the categories... not things I want people to buy for me, in reality they're thing's I want to buy for myself.

This week's wish list is my Household Wish List... with some of the things I want most for the home I share with R.

All of the items above are from Target... and It it isn't obvious I have a Grey/Teal and White theme in mind for my home.

Family Pictures with my Dad and Sister

So this is a really picture heavy post... over my fall break my wonderful Mom was willing to take some family pictures for my Dad of me and my sister.

It's really great that I have a mom who is not only a wonderful photographer but is willing to take pictures for her ex husband.

My dad really doesn't know how lucky he got in the ex-wife department.

We had a lot of fun taking these and I wanted to share some of my favorites with you.

It was football themed of course and focused on our "House Divided" status.

Fashion Friday... Football Fashion for Every Game

So, for me what I wear to a football game varies depending on three factors...
When the game is?
This includes not only the day of the game, but the time of year the game occurs (my gameday look is different when i go home to cheer on my Raiders and when I stay here to cheer on my Gamecocks, but it also changes as the season progresses to get a bit warmer).

What I'm doing?
Am I going to the game just to cheer for my team? am I going with family? Friends? My Hubby? are we tailgating? All of these things are also factors that effect how I would dress for games.

The final factor is what team I'm pulling for?

Needless to say I won't be wearing Garnet and Black to my high school's football games any more than I would wear Green and Gold to watch my Gamecocks play! However when I'm going to games where I don't have a dog in the race so to speak this gets a little more complicated. In these situation's I prefer a simple base, either a simple dress, or jeans and tee shirt in a neutral color, almost always white or black, paired with a scarf, earrings, and sometimes even shoes in the colors of the team I'm supporting.

And just for an added bonus... here's my best impressions of the Heisman Trophy... which apparently isn't a very good impression! But hey Go Vikings!

Happy Football Season Loves!

Lip Service... a la NYX!

I have an obsession...
It's real...
It's terrifying...
for my wallet...

It's NYX Lip Products...

and I want them all!!

I recently purchased a few different NYX lip products, These included the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creme in several colors, the NYX Intense Butter Gloss, NYX Butter Gloss, and the NYX Butter Lipstick...

I swatched them all so you could see them, from top to bottom you have SMLC in Cairo, San Paulo, Istanbul, and Sydney. Then you have the Intense Butter Gloss in Banana Split, the Butter Gloss in Cherry Cheese Cake, and the Butter Lipstick in Bonfire.

SO I guess I'll start with what i loved... and then we can move on to what i didn't.

Those Soft Matte Lip Cremes... i don't even know what to say about them! They are so pigmented, so beautiful, so creamy, they smell wonderful, they dry to a wonderful matte finish, they don't fall into my lip lines like matte lipsticks do, and they smell like flipping icing or something!

Oh and the other thing about them is once they dry, that color is locked in place! I swear to you these babies survived eating, drinking, and the occasional kiss and almost never needed to be touched up at the wedding I went to a few weeks ago. The only reason I found myself in need of a touch up was because I accidentally wiped my mouth with a napkin at one point and lost some color... but it's pretty impressive that it lasted as long as it did.

I love every single color I purchased and will be going back over time until I have all (well almost all) of these babies in my makeup collection! I'm in love!

The Butter Lipstick is also beautiful! It's a creamy consistency and the color is the most perfect cherry red color. It makes something inside me happy whenever I wear it. Its soft, and supple, and even though the color is very bright it is very forgiving and doesn't stain my lips at all! (Hooray for NYX for making a red that I can actually get off!!!!) I love the formula of the Butter Lipsticks and I will definitely be going back to purchase more of these beautiful babies in the future!

The Butter Glosses (intense and otherwise) are beautiful colors! They smell wonderful, and for a lipgloss, and at this price point they are pretty spectacular. However I'm not a gloss girl, which I know has more to do with my dislike of these glosses than anything else. I just don't enjoy the sticky feeling of my lips after using glosses. They don't dry to a non-sticky finish, they fade quickly, and my hair gets stuck in them. No Bueno, but still good for girls who love glosses, or younger girls who want sheer color without the intensity of the SMLC's. I will either be returning these or gifting my little sister with them as I am and will forever be a lipstick and lip creme girl.

I also purchased a tube of the NYX Matte Lipstick in the shade Temptress, which was the most perfect pink nude, but that was a fail for me so I most likely won't be repurchasing. [just a personal preference i didn't like how it looked on my lips. I have a lot of lines in my lips and the product settled wrong]

Fashion Friday (on a Thursday)... Stitch Fix #4

Today's Fashion Friday... is on a Thursday... oops!
But really how could I not when today's post is about my latest Stitch Fix and today is one year from the day I received my very first Stitch Fix in the mail!

(Also makes it the 1 year anniversary of that time I was so excited to open my First Stitch Fix that I fell off the bed edge and hit my head on the window sill, and possibly dislocated my shoulder. Which resulted in my husband telling making my dad and sister think I was seriously injured... thanks babe! J/K I love you! But really, maybe lead with the I'm alright part?)

But Any Whoo...

If you're a long time follower you know that I subscribe to the Stitch Fix service.

You also know that I've has a love/hate relationship with it from the very beginning.

I recently got my fourth Stitch Fix in the mail... and it was actually amazing!
I kept three of the five items and am so in love with two of them that I've worn/carried them on a regular basis pretty much every day since.

My stylist this time was Holly! Holly you do good things!

So here's everything I got and what I thought about it.

Item #1 - Renee C Verena Dress

I loved this dress. It was adorable, a little on the short side, but it fit me well otherwise. I liked the color and the pattern, I loved the fabric. However I didn't keep it. For several reasons. I have several dresses that are really similar to this dress, and in practice I don't wear them. Additionally this dress is not at all suitable for court which is one of my major concerns with any dress or skirt, and most tops I purchase these days. I wish I had taken the advice in my stylists note and tried it on with the 41 Hawthorn Cardigan from my very first Fix (You can find that post here! Cannot believe it's already been a year since my first fix... ) because I think that may have swayed me to keep this one.

Item #2 - Market & Spruce Alan French Asymmetrical Zip Cardigan

This cardigan is everything! at $68.00 it was tied for the most expensive thing in my fix, but how could i not keep it! I like it zipped or unzipped, and I've worn it at least four times since I got it in my fix... I accidentally washed it last night! Here's hoping it didn't shrink or I'll be devastated. A love for certain!

Item #3 - Pixley Gania Embellished Neckline Blouse

This Pixley top is my second favorite thing from the fix! I just adore it. I love it paired with trousers or a skirt for work/court, I love it with jeans and a cardigan for school... I just love it. The detailing around the neckline is gorgeous. This was a for sure keeper the moment I took it out of the box. The length is perfect, and it fit me well across the chest (guess thats because it has no sleeves.) Is it worth $58.00, i'm not sure i would have paid that in a store. But I bought it so clearly I do believe it was worth the money.

Item #4 - Urban Expressions Andover Bowler Bag

I love this pocket book. It's the first time i've gotten one through Stitch Fix and I was really impressed. The size is definitely large enough. In fact I've been carrying it every day since I got it in the mail! So Win for Stitch Fix... win for me... wins all around! It was a pricey purchase coming in at $68.00 but I just love it so much it's worth every penny!

Item #5 - Papermoon for StitchFix Wynn Blouse

This shirt was adorable on the hanger... but on my body it was just a huge resounding NO! First off the pattern I adored! However when I put the shirt on it was much too tight through the shoulders and i was not a fan of how short it was on me (those long torso probs). The second issue i had were the huge pockets on the chest of the blouse, one directly atop each of my breasts... not attractive design choice for busty women there. So this one was obviously a send back, I just couldn't see paying $48.00 for something that didn't fit me right.

The overal verdict? Fix Success! I was most happy with this fix out of all the one's i've received. Can't wait for my next one!

My Daily makeup look...

My day to day makeup routine varies slightly from day to day...

However 95% of the time I have a very set makeup routine... and It looks like this.

To get this look I use various products...

My daily use makeup includes: Urban Decay Naked 3; Tarte Showstopper Palette; NYX Angel Veil Primer; Benefit Boi-ing concealer in the lightest color available; Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow foundation and Pressed Powder in I'm Pure For Sure (aka the lightest shade); Benefit The Big Easy BB creme in Light; and Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick in Nude Delight.

My mascara drug of choice this week... month... year... millenium, is Rimmel Scandaleyes Mascara! I am hardcore in LOVE with this Product!

The biggest thing for me... in applying makeup, and life in general is patience.

I have none!

So any makeup look that isn't simple and quick generally doesn't make it out the door in the mornings!

If you would like a more in-depth tutorial please comment down below to let me know!
I will be more than willing to film one for you all!

Be Still my Poor Little Ovaries...

Diagnosis: Baby Fever

Symptoms: extreme longing for a child when confronted with (a) babies and or pictures of babies, (b) baby related products, (c) things that remind you of babies e.g. puppies, kittens, or baby birds, (d) anything that remotely makes you think about babies... which is pretty much everything.

Prognosis: Chronic, Recurring,  and Highly Contagious

Treatment: Have a baby?

hmmm maybe that's not such a good idea right now.

Treatment #2... WE DON'T KNOW!

So all joking aside...
Baby Fever... it's a thing. Call it my biological clock ticking, call it maternal instinct, call it whatever you want... the result is the same, a deep and intense longing for a child that makes even the sanest of us loose our wits and spend copious amounts of time on Pinterest planning a nursery for babies we haven't even made yet.

What caused this weeks relapse???

Well baby shopping for my step-brother's precious little son who made his debut a few months early but is already the most handsome little man in the whole wide world. Even at only 29 weeks and right around 3 lbs. The clothes I bought him for his baby shower (that was supposed to be on sunday) will be much too big so I went out in search of something that would be more useful to his mommy and daddy now. Well BuyBuy Baby... how dare you be so flipping cute. Instant ovary attack the moment you walk in the door... cute baby stuff everywhere. I hate it. I really do. I can't have kids right now, but dang it I'd like to.

What will cause next week's relapse???

Who flipping knows. Probably something really small and insignificant like a sock.

Sorry for the Rant...

Fashion Friday... Denim and Black

Since Fall is fully upon us now! I thought it might be time to start sharing my favorite fall looks.

A few weeks ago, over my fall break, I went home to my family and my mom and I had a lot of fun taking these awesome pictures!

She is a truly wonderful photographer and artist... (and you can check her work out here)

This is one of my favorite looks! I love maxi dresses for this time of year. They are simple and sophisticated and lets just be honest they are every where this time of year. This particular dress was on clearance at Khol's during back to school and my wonderful M.I.L bought me two of them (at $10.00 a piece). I love to pair my black maxi with a cardigan or jacket, black flats and scarf.
In these pics... the Jacket and Flats are both from Target purchased on sale and I believe they are both the Merona Brand. The scarf was a Christmas Present from a family member last year, however I am fairly certain that it came from Khol's.

Sweet Puppy sister had to get in on the pics!

Happy Fall Y'all!

First off... Can I just ask this?

Am I the only person who finds a new product, falls in love, and immediately wants all of the colors in her makeup collection!

Just me?

oh... well ok then!

Since Christmas is right around the Corner I thought I would go ahead and get the gift ideas flowing this year so every week in November I will be posting a wishlist with a different theme all leading up to December.

Here's the first in the series... my 2015 #BeautyWishlist

Beauty Wishlist 2015

Beauty Wishlist 2015 by tesla-howell featuring lips makeup

The number one thing on my wish list is every single color of the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cremes and the Prismatic Eye Shadows... I need them!

I'm also obsessed with the NYX Butter Lipsticks (specifically the colors pictures they are just to fabulous not to want).

Next We have some Tarte Products: Specifically the Amazonian Butter Lipsticks, I own the Poppy color and would love to have more. Then there is the Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush which just gives my face such a healthy happy flush without looking to unnatural.

A Beauty Blender! I want one so bad. It's a splurge but I've been dying to see how it actually works.

Staying with tools... the Real Techniques Bold Metals collection is calling my name! ... Seriously can't you hear them? Just me? Oh... Ok!

Palettes I'm dying for... the Lorac Pro Palette, the Naked and Naked 2 Palettes, and the Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette. SO MUCH LOVE.

NARS Orgasim... no seriously I love this color and according to the website you just can't "fake it"

OCC Lip tars and Too Faced Melted Lip Sticks

And last but not least the most practical thing on here... one of those little face cleaners... I don't want a Clarisonic... those are stupid expensive, but I would really love something similar in a more reasonable price point.

Made With Love...

Love bugs... if you don't want to read a long sappy, slightly emotional post about soup... I think maybe you should stop here. Also, no i'm not insane. This soup, and the man who taught me how to make it mean so much to me and I get a little emotional when I talk about it, and him.

I've always believe that when cooking there is one special ingredient that can never be left out...
It makes everything taste better...
It makes the process of cooking more pleasant...
and without it certain things just don't taste right...

That Special Ingredient???

You guessed it, Love!

Before you say... this chick is crazy, let me go somewhere else. I want to tell you a story.

When I was growing up I had a few foods that were my absolute favorite... My Nana's poundcake, my Nanny's orange pies, my Papa Stan's hash, and my Papa Reed's Perlo... just to name a few.

They're still my favorite foods today.
And over the years I've tried to learn to make each of them. For the most part I've been successful. My pound cake isn't bad, my orange pies are perfect, and while I've never made Hash by myself I've been helping my Papa Stan make it for as long as I can remember.

There was however one dish that I've never been able to get to taste quite right.

If you're my FB friend you've probably seen me post about my struggles to make my Papa's Perlo since he passed away last March. (the struggles began before then, but I could always call him and ask him what I did wrong, or what ingredient or step I was forgetting).

Me and my Papa... my best bud since day one
Every single time I've made it since he died I've been disappointed with how it turned out.

It's been too thick, too thin, too spicy, too bland, too dry, too soupy... it's always too something.

My school has an annual event during our Fall Food Drive each year where organizations and individuals make soups and for five dollars other students can taste as many soups as they can possibly eat during the lunch hour. The Judges and students vote, and the soups that win each category receive a trophy.

The money goes to the Harvest Hope Food Bank, and I've always thought this was a wonderful cause... one I am always more than happy to support.

This year I decided for the first time that I was going to participate in the "Hunger is Not a Crock (pot)" event.

When I was thinking about what kind of soup to make, only one thing came to mind. Papa's Perlo.

Photo Credit: Harvest Hope Food Bank
I wasn't sure I'd be able to do it. I was fairly certain it wouldn't come out right, and I was certain that come Monday at lunch I would have some sort of weird pseudo soup to serve my classmates. But I did it anyway.

Sunday morning I woke up before 6am... went into my kitchen and started working on my soup.
I boiled two whole chickens for this thing! I spent hours cooking, cooling, cleaning, and shredding chicken. Slicing sausage, and cooking rice.  My Papa was on my mind the whole time. I cried a little... don't worry if any of my literal tears got in the soup it was de minimus!

I burned my fingers trying to get the chicken off the bone, and burned my arm trying to strain the broth.

When I was finally done around dinner time I decided that I might as well have myself a bowl. It tasted perfect, it wasn't too soupy or too thick, it was just the right amount of salty and smokey, and it reminded me so much of  the times that wonderful man had made it for me or helped me through making it while he was here.

Monday morning I took it to school, really hoping that it would still be delicious, and not too thick by lunch time.

I had so much fun serving my Papa's Perlo to my classmates and the judges. Every time someone would tell me how good the soup was I would smile the biggest smile because deep down I knew that somewhere my Papa is so proud of his Varmitosa for making his soup, and sharing it with other people.

Much to my surprise I even won one of the coveted trophies! My Papa's Perlo won the Children's Choice Award.

Also Known as the soup most likely to be eaten by children, and not fed to the dog.
I was so proud!

Picture Credit to Cat from Cittie Tells

But back to my epiphany that the most important ingredient is love. When I was younger and my Papa would make Perlo for me I always knew that he was making it because he loved me, and he knew I loved it.

When I made it for the cook off I was so full of love, love for my Papa, love for my wonderful classmates, love for my best friend (who got her own bowl since she hasn't been feeling good), and love for the cause because I really believe in Harvest Hope Food Bank and what they do for our community. There was so much love. How could it not turn out perfect!

So until next time... with all my love!
